“PRINCIPAL HAS A PENCHANT FOR MUSIC" Click on Lena's name to read the whole story!” - Lena Khzouz

— News-Herald Newspaper

“PAUL W. REEVES TO PERFORM LIVE" Grosse Ile resident, Paul W. Reeves, has been active in music since he was sixteen years old, as he has performed on a multitude of percussion instruments and the piano in Symphony Orchestras, Chamber Ensembles Big Bands and Jazz Combos, Pop Groups, and even Rock N' Roll Bands, as well as engaging in a substantial amount of solo work, including his 1982 performances in China with the Wayne State University Symphonic Band. His past itinerary includes performances with his own band and other bands at the Grosse Ile Golf and Country Club, West Shore Golf and Country Club, Grosse Ile Yacht Club, the Pilot House, and the Grosse Ile Boat Club. Additionally, Reeves worked for years as a Band Director in the award-winning Plymouth-Canton Community Schools Band program, where his Bands were awarded several 1st division ratings at band festivals and over 100 Solo and Ensemble medals each year. In addition to taking the bands on tour to Boston, Chicago, Washington D.C., and Toronto, as well as their annual performances at Sea World and Cedar Point, his 350 yearly students also recorded albums of concert music with recording engineers from Motown Records. During his tenure at the podium, concert and jazz bands from Eastern Michigan University, Henry Ford Community College, and the University of Michigan visited his school to perform on stage with his students. While teaching and conducting, Reeves also wrote several original compositions, as well as full arrangements of existing tunes, for his symphonic, concert, and jazz bands. While earning the first of his 3 college degrees, Reeves studied privately and in percussion ensembles for four years with the famed Principal Timpanist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Salvatore Rabbio. In addition to earning 2 degrees in Educational Leadership, Reeves earned a B.A. in Music Education, while intensively studying Music Performance at the same time. Although Reeves voluntarily took a sabbatical from performing music, so that he and his wife, Debbie, could have more time to raise their three children (Kristin, Ryan, and Brandon), he re-entered music in 2006, initially at the behest of his former students, as Reeves had told them that he would someday record his music for their enjoyment. In late 2006, Reeves released his first two CD’s, “Vibes In The Night” and “Christmas Vibes”. The CD’s, which are jazz versions of popular songs, feature Reeves’ playing on the vibes, piano, bass, and drums. Reeves is currently working on two new projects, his classical CD and a CD which features his own original compositions for band and orchestra. A nearly lifelong resident of the Downriver Area, Reeves continues to work as a composer/arranger, performer, and clinician. Additional information on Paul W. Reeves and his CD’s can be found on his website (http://www.paulwreeves.com). His website receives nearly 300 hits per day from people in over 60 countries. In addition to working as a public school Principal, Reeves has chaperoned the Grosse Ile High School Marching Band Camp, works with the GIYRA baseball and softball umpires, has managed and coached GIYRA baseball and basketball teams, and serves as the public address announcer for the Grosse Ile High School Marching Band, the Grosse Ile High School girls’ and boys’ JV basketball teams, and the Grosse Middle School boys’ football team. Reeves was also a featured artist for the Grosse Ile Historical Commission during their holiday sale in December. Paul W. Reeves will be performing in concert for the Grosse Ile Musicale in March at the Grosse Ile Golf and Country Club. His solo recital performance will include classical music, a few of his original compositions, and jazz selections.”
