You'll never know how much you have excited a young man into exploring music as you have with my son. From the moment that you gave your CD to him last summer, he has played it just about everyday, including all day every day during his Christmas vacation. He now wants to be a professional musician .... HELP! Just kidding - thank you for your kindness to my son - you have made a huge impact on a young man's life.

Hi Mr. Reeves,
I was a young kid when I was in your band and now I'm fast-approaching middle age. Wow, how did that happen? Anyway, my family and I just finished listening to your "Christmas Vibes" CD - it's awesome!

Some of the nuances that you put in took me back to our East MS days when you would demonstrate various techniques for us.

Thank you for everything!

Mr. Reeves!
Hey I didn't see Michigan Center in your bio, but that is a forgivable omission. I've tried to find you on & off for years. Thank you for everything you did for me as a kid. I went on to study Jazz at University of TN with Jerry Coker, and have thought of you often in my travels.

Hey Paul - Your "In The City" original cut is going to be a hit for you. Fresh and cutting edge with hard driving bass and drums - Keep up the "BOSS" work.

I first met Paul in Detroit playing in a jazz quartet (sax, piano, bass and drums). I thought he was a remarkable drummer then, and this was nearly 30 years ago! I later joined his group on bass for about half a dozen years.

Paul's work on vibes is nothing short of stellar. He's what Alexander Zonjic is to flute, or Bela Fleck to banjo. Well worth a listen...Enjoy!

What a surprise to find your name popping up on my computer screen! I was searching information for my family tree and I typed in a search for Don's son, Paul. Well, the combination of "Paul" and "Hanson" combined and found it's way to you!
I just wanted to say "Hi". I retired from Michigan Center in June of 2007 - not my choice, but I had been sick and they found a way to eliminate my high pay level and bring in a young teacher. I got over it after a while - and I'm now working in the office of a driver education company. It's fun - and no evening rehearsals!
Ron and I have been married for 10 years now. We both talk of you often and what a terrific job you did at Michigan Center. I still refer to you as "Rookie" - I guess that will never change. (Don influenced both of us!)
I hope all is well with you. Drop a line if you get a chance!

Hey Paul,

I finally got a chance to listen to your Vibes in the Night" CD. Excellent work overall, but I particularly enjoyed your cymbal work on Miles' "Seven Steps to Heaven"!! In the pocket and be-boppin' all the way!

Mr.Paul W.Reeves -

I happily bought and listened to your CD -"Vibes in the Night". This CD quickly became one of my favorites. It is very rhythmical.

Hey Mr. Reeves,

I went to Mount Clemens Middle School for one year and I never would have guessed you were like famous. Ms. Mohler told me you were like famous so i googled you. That is so kool, but thats all i had to say. Bye.

Mr Reeves,

I only came across this website by accident, but oh the memories it brought back! I was only a student of yours for one year at East Middle school in 6th grade. I remember the first day of class you asked what instruments we wanted to play, and you had us try the different mouthpieces to ensure we could do it. I chose trumpet for some unknown reason, but I stuck with it.

After 6th grade my family relocated to Kansas City, and after two years there we moved to Holt Michigan. During that entire time I continued to play my trumpet. What you started in 6th grade carried me all the way through my senior year of high school. Through all of the solo and ensembles, marching band, etc.

I no longer play trumpet, but I do play guitar and you helped fuel a passion for music that I will carry with me the rest of my life.

Thank you so much!

Hi Mr. Reeves,

I remember to this day the red poster that was hung in the center of the huge band room and it read:

There are 4 kinds of music:
1. Good music
2. Bad music
3. Music that you like
4. Music that you don't like

I am a music aficionado and possess an extensive collection that includes bands such as Sonic Youth, The Velvet Underground, etc. But I can also ask people why they don't listen to Miles, Coltrane, Bird, Sonny Rollins, or Duke.

My interpretation from that perfect 4: some music may be good, but doesn't mean you have to like it. But some music may be bad, but it doesn't mean you can't like it.

FYI: I still have my professional recording, the cassette tape.

Thanks Mr. Reeves!

I’m not sure if you remember me or not but I played trombone in your class around 1991-’92ish.

You must have had immeasurable patience to teach us all. I just wanted to say thank you.

While I ended up choosing a career in engineering over music, it was not an easy choice.

After East Middle School, I played trombone in Plymouth-Canton’s marching band for a year and we ended up taking 3rd at national competition. I also began to seriously study guitar during high school. I went to college at Michigan Tech. where I played trombone in the pep-band and played guitar / sang off and on in a garage band. Since then, I don’t pick up my trombone much anymore but I still play and record guitar. I’m hoping to get up the guts to start on a new CD in the near future.

Your teachings have been a great influence on my music.

p.s. I love the Christmas vibes.

Hello Mr. Reeves,

I was pleasantly surprised to see the post card that you sent to my parent’s house as well as your article in the Canton Observer of your CD release. I was a member of your band class at East Middle School during the years 91-92, 92-93, and 93-94. I played the trumpet. I wanted to take a moment to say hi and let you know that I really enjoyed you as a teacher. I enjoyed band class very much and was saddened when you left during my eighth grade year. I of course understood that other opportunities arose, however that’s how much I enjoyed your teaching. I was just talking to a co-worker and was telling them about how you would post the UofM score as well as the MSU score. Those were the years when CMU would beat MSU. Funny how I ended up going to CMU! I also shared with the co-worker the game we would play on Fridays where we would try and shoot the ball into the trash can (basket) and win a bag of M&M’s. That was always fun! I see that all is well with you and hope you continue with your success. I would love to hear back from you.

Thanks for the skeleton cut of "Machina". You actually wrote this years ago for kids to play? Wow, pretty intensive stuff! Can't wait until it's finished. Let me know!

Hi Paul,
Just picked up your CD from CDBaby and I must tell you .... from a professional drummer who is trying to learn the vibes .... you are one heck of a drummer!! Wow, your work on "7 Steps" by Miles is outstanding? Pushing the beat, yet in the pocket at all times with tasteful cymbal and hi-hat work. And your drum solo is musical while allowing you to show off your skills!
Don't worry, I loved your work on the vibes, too, but I figured that you get lots of compliments there. Just wanted to let you know that, from one drummer to another, you're quite a player!

Mr. Reeves - I just heard through the grapevine that you're recording all of your original full orchestra/band pieces, featuring the Marimba and Xylophone as the solo instruments. Is this true and when can I get my hands on some cuts?

Mr. Reeves,

I just bought both of your CD's. Wow, the memories ... they took me back to when you were my teacher and you played for us. I have always missed those days. I hope that everything is fine with you and your family (I played trumpet).

Paul -
We found your music on the Internet and we bought both of your CD's! Excellent job on all of the instruments. It's obvious that you're a top professional. Your vibes playing is quite musical, your drumming is right on the money, and your piano playing is top-notch, as well. We can't wait for your classical CD (will it be as good as your jazz CD's?)!! Let us know if you ever plan to perform in Texas! Thank you!

I received a letter in the mail notifying me about your new website, so I just wanted to drop a note to thank you. Learning to play the alto saxophone from you during my years at East provided me with not only a new talent, but more importantly- some of the fondest childhood memories I have to date.
Thank you for encouraging and reminding us everyday not to limit ourselves in life. Although from the outside it may have appeared that you were only pushing us "musically", the truth is- I am one case-example of how your belief in our individual ability virtually changed my life. Thank you for expecting and demanding more than I would have expected out of myself. It is the life-lesson that inspires me to continue challenging myself in all that I do.
You are an incredibly talented individual with a distinctive ear and ability to write phenomenal music.
I not only look forward to buying your cd, but would also like to let you know that you have had a profound impact on my life.
Thank you-
Shiny Mathew-Pappy

Paul - Sarah told us that you're working on a classical CD that will feature Bach. Is this true? Can you put a post on your website if it's true? I'm sure that a lot of folks would like to hear it!

Hi Paul, We used to watch you play Vibes at the annual Christmas party for DXE Automotive Group. In fact, for the last two years that you played, we went to the party JUST to see you play. Hi Paul, We used to eat dinner every single night at Hart's just to listen to you sing and play the vibes (do you remember us?). You made our evenings then and your CD is making them again. Thanks!

Hi Mr. Reeves! I was one of those kids you promised you would make a CD--how wonderful to see it come true! I was an 8th grader in '94--remember Andrea Corpolongo making string cheese mobiles for your office and your lunchtime crowd? Thanks for so many great memories (though I still cring when I hear "Achy Breaky Heart" after playing in Jazz Band!)!
Sincerely, Erin (Wysocki) Kostun

Paul - I first listened to a few of your downloads on my laptop and your tunes sounded didn't sound quite right. Then I went home and downloaded a few of your songs through my decent speakers. Now that I have heard your music through decent speakers, I have the following to say:
Oh - My - Gosh! Dear King Sir, you are the Master of the Vibes and perhaps the Universe (Well, O.K., maybe just the Vibes!). Keep up the great work!

Sam Carwin

December 21, 2006

Paul - You don't know me, but I need some tips. You recorded all of the parts yourself, but it sounds like a live band. When I close my eyes while listening to your music, it sounds like I'm listening to a live band in a club. How did you do it? You sound great!

Danny Winston

December 19, 2006

Wow, Paul, you still got it on the drums! You're great throughout your CD's, but your drum solo on "Seven Steps To Heaven" is the work of a top professional! Great job!

December 8, 2006

Paul - I saw your website and I checked out your music. In my 38 years on this earth, I have laughed and cried, but I have never sobbed ..... I sobbed after listening to your version of "Silent Night". I think that's how that song will sound when I get to Heaven ..... Thank you!

20 years ago, I heard Paul play in a swinging jazz club. Ever since that night, I've been searching for him. Thankfully, I found this website! I shall order his CDs and feel the vibes I felt that very first night in the club.

November 19, 2006

Hi Paul, It's been a long time! You might not remember us, but you played for our wedding reception on July 11, 1992! Every year on our anniversary we play our wedding tape and there you are .... featured prominently throughout the whole reception tape! You sounded great and we're glad that we are getting to hear you again! In addition to your vibes playing at our reception, you did a lot of singing, too. Any thoughts of releasing a vocals CD? We'd buy it in a second!! Thanks for the memories. You're terrific!

Dave Kosinksi

November 13, 2006

Hi Paul! I played the bass in one of your early bands. I'm glad to see that you're still playing!! Let's get together and jam!
